Fall Festival 2024: Celebrating Music of the Contemporary

Dates: Saturday, Oct. 5 — Piano and Strings Sunday, Oct. 6 — Piano and Voice
Enrollment will be open from Aug 9 -Aug 31, 2024 Description: Students will play one memorized piece of period literature for an adjudicator. If the piece is not memorized, the student may play for comments only; no points will be awarded. Adults may use music. Students will be assigned a recital time and room at the Bell Center. Entrants have a time limit of five minutes. It is permissible to play two shorter pieces/movements as long as the five minute time limit is not exceeded. Students will receive a ribbon, a certificate and a written evaluation with a rating. In addition, a student earns points toward a Fall Festival Award plaque engraved with his or her name and the year in which the award was received. A plaque is awarded each time twelve points are earned. Highest Honors: 4 Points Purple Ribbon High Honors: 3 Points Blue Ribbon Honors: 2 Points Red Ribbon Honorable Mention: 1 Point White Ribbon *On special occasions, a student may be awarded with a 4+, which earns them a special ribbon for an especially outstanding performance. 4 points are given with this award. Repertoire: This year the Fall Festival will celebrate music of the Contemporary Period (1901-present). For consultation on appropriate repertoire contact Marles Dudley ([email protected]) or Jennifer Lacy ([email protected]). Transcriptions, abridgements, or arrangements will not be allowed for piano entries. Each student must have his or her own original score for judge’s use, measures numbered. If music is not given to the judge, one point will be deducted from the student’s score. Accompanist must also have original score. No photocopies will be allowed unless accompanied by written permission of the publisher. Downloaded music needs to have a receipt attached, proving purchase of each download. All photocopies need to have a release form for copyright (available at kansascitymusicteachers.org). Please read carefully before signing. This form does not excuse or permit copied music; its purpose is to protect KCMTA.
Non-Refundable Fees: $20 per student with no teacher fee for KCMTA members $20 per student plus $25 teacher fee for members of MTNA $20 per student plus $75 teacher fee with no MTNA membership Once the established schedule is emailed to you, there is no option but to perform in the recital at your scheduled time. No changes will be made via email or on the day of Fall Festival.
Enrollment: Participation in the Fall Festival requires registration, payment, and a studio volunteer. Students must be enrolled online at http://kcmta.tenutoweb.com/. Please be accurate in spellings. If you are a teacher entering a transfer student who has previously attended Fall Festival under a different teacher, here are the directions to add that student to your student list: Click on "My Students" then you will see 3 options below the "My Students" tab. Select the 3rd option: "Claim an existing student". You will then enter the student's name and search for them, then when their name comes up, click "claim." The student will now come up in your student list. Payment may be made online (there is a small service fee for paying online) or by check made out to KCMTA and mailed directly to Linda Featherston: 11007 W 100th St., Overland Park, KS 66214. There will be no refunds for cancellations. Please notify Beci Lankford of any cancellations in writing or by email. Absolutely no late enrollments will be accepted and changes will not be made after registration has closed. Please do not ask to be an exception to this rule.

Siblings can be scheduled in the same recital only when indicated on registration. Studio volunteer: The KCMTA Fall Festival is a teacher-staffed event. We need and appreciate every teacher working at the festival.

If a teacher cannot work, they are welcome to substitute with a responsible/dependable parent, college student, or a student seeking Community Service Hours.
